Entre Vinyes
At Small Victories, we’ve never been shy about dreaming big—so it felt perfectly fitting when our friends at Valkyrie Selections presented us with a wine named Oniric, the Catalan word for “dreamer.” It was no surprise that we fell in love with it immediately—and just as quickly, we asked if there was any way we could collaborate with the producer.
You might already know Maria Barrena, one of the partners behind Azul y Garanza—an exceptional winery crafting wines from the desert landscape of the Bardenas Reales in Navarra, Spain. In addition to her work there, Maria and her husband, Josep, also care for vineyards near the Foix Natural Park under their own label: Entre Vinyes. These vines, located in the Baix Penedès region near the Mediterranean Sea, have been in Josep’s family since the 1940s.
Their old-vine Xarel·lo, Macabeu, and Parellada—now over 60 years old—grow in oak and pine forests in a dry climate on porous terrain that drains quickly. The calcareous soil is shallow, nutrient-poor, and famously difficult to farm—earning it the nickname The Witch’s Path. Yet it’s precisely these tough conditions that foster extraordinary biodiversity, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that helps maintain balance in their organically farmed vineyards.
Each Entre Vinyes label features a bird—a nod to the natural life that flourishes in these carefully tended vineyards. For Maria and Josep, their vineyards are more than just land; they’re a home, a nest, a place where they can nurture and create something deeply personal.
